Sometimes Invisible People Win…

Sometime just sometimes the invisible can get the right result, and by that I mean the homeless, of which there are several categories, Sleeping Rough,Hidden,Runaways, Escaping Domestic Violence, Relationship Break ups.

Well today Shelter with the intervention of Crisis won a landmark case on how local councils are defining vulnerability whilst homeless, this is especially good news for single people like myself, who are amongst the thousands of homeless in the UK, who because they don’t fit the  very narrow criteria for even temporary emergency housing.

Homelessness is a huge problem in the UK and with local councils budgets fully stretched and simply not enough affordable housing available many slip through the cracks, and become invisible, as the quality of their lives, mental health are eroded by a system not designed to help in any meaningful way.

I don’t know how quickly the changes will take to funnel through to local councils, but for me there is more than a glimmer of hope that not only will I not be turned away with little or no advice, but will be listened to, and my status considered alongside those that have a more pressing need to housing( as stated in the first paragraph), it will also mean that I can challenge them more directly, so that they might even take notes and I won’t have to just rely on charitable agencies, who will also have to follow the new guidelines.

Mostly it means that in time there can now begin a process, that can remove people from the hell that is homelessness, and people like myself can now come in from the edges of society and be part of the community, for many this means having a future, and with that brings a sense of belonging, pride, confidence, self-esteem.
