Sitting in my favourite watering hole above well in the other lounge my friend and I were lamenting that for a historical town we don’t have reading rooms.
I’m not talking about the Library which funnily I find altogether too noisy, and not all what I remembered as a child those cavernous space filled with nothing but books and a very stern librarian at the front desk.
As I’m an avid reader I like to find places other than being at home in which to hunker down with a great book, well the weather in the UK has been nothing but rain so much so I thought I might attempt building an ark so the park has been a no go area.
Anyhow back to the topic, we wanted then dreamed of opening a reading rooms somewhere elegant or a huge lounge with high ceilings small tables with Tiffany lamps huge squashy sofas and wing chairs floor to ceiling windows to let in the natural light.
As we got excited about our idea (though I don’t know it will ever come into fruition) we also wanted someone who served Teas or hot Buttered Toast and Crumpets, an open fire in the Winter months, sorry this is very British, just somewhere to read in convivial surroundings we’d even have a bar that’s very British too at the end of a long day with a very civilised Gin & Tonic or a glass of Wine even Sherry..lol
We also talked about a book club and book exchange whereby we’d donate our books to the reading room thus creating our own library, how cool would that be, nothing better than the smell of books or the excitement of starting a new one and the peace in which to enjoy it.
I like the sound of that…. you could have a Reading & Tea Room 🙂
…I haven’t had crumpets in years… save me some with strawberry jam, please 😀

Honestly, they were always too dry for me… but I did like a good cheese ‘n pickle sarnie… you can get Branston’s over here – if you look in the right places – but it’s like $6 a jar LOL

Dear trh,
I always wanted to open a bookshop with an area like you describe that serves tea, coffee etc – but not jammy foods because I wouldn’t want marks on the books. Also, there’s a problem with selling the books – I’d want to keep them all. 😉

Been a dream of mine but I was more thinking like a book exchange were people left their books thus creating our own library.
I’d probably end up in a corner reading all day customers or not lol.
